I recently bought a used sony laptop, and someone had installed Ubuntu, and I can’t find a way to uninstall it, or should I overwrite it?

What is the right way to dual boot Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux?
I want Windows XP to be the default OS. Do I install XP on drive C? Do I need a boot manager? If so, what is the best boot manager?
