how do i connect to my wireless internet connection using ubuntu?

i have recently installed ubuntu 8.04. When i run ubuntu i cannot use my wireless internet. Ubuntu does not detect my wlan card.

If you card is supported its a breeze ( or somewhat) if not its difficult

You may have to be an add on wi fi card from the list that are supported
I do not know if usbs will work easily
A/B/G Atheros based cards seem to be relatively well supported

in case you are wondering what a band is
Regular wi/ fi works in same band as standard 2.4 gig cordless phones
a is an entirely separate frequency band that newer really caught on
it is a similar area to the newer 5.8 ghz cordless phones
Less interference , very fast , does not go as far as g/b
Needs a special router
