what do i have to do to install ubuntu in a laptop that does not have a cd-rom?

i have the ubuntu installation cd but this is one of those mini notebooks that does not have a cd-rom. it is suposed to be installed from the startup booting. can i configure it so it uses a usb memory device?

You can do this using a USB Flash drive or an external drive and boot from these devices.
